Dog exercise areas
There are many dog exercise areas across Stockholm where your dog can run and play off lead.
There are two types of dog exercise areas: dog exercise parks and dog exercise areas.
Dog exercise park
A dog exercise park is a fenced area with grass or gravel surfaces where your dog can be off lead. Dog exercise parks are clearly marked with signs.
Dog exercise area
A dog exercise area is not fenced. It is an open space, often within a park. Your dog may be off lead, provided it remains under your control and returns when called.
Things to keep in mind as a dog owner
-
Dogs must be kept on a lead in public places in Stockholm. This requirement does not apply in designated dog exercise areas. However, dogs in season may only be off lead in fenced dog exercise parks.
-
Between 1 March and 20 August, dogs must not be off lead in forests or countryside where there is wildlife.

Dogs are not allowed at public bathing areas between 1 June and 31 August. There are exceptions. For example, dogs are welcome all year round at the Långholmen cliff bathing area.
-
As a dog owner, you are always responsible for your dog. You must ensure that your dog does not cause injury or disturb other people.
-
Always clean up after your dog. Dog waste bags can be disposed of in the City of Stockholm's litter bins.
