Places where swimming is permitted

In the City of Stockholm, large parts of Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea (Saltsjön) are designated as harbour areas, so it is important to know where swimming is permitted.

Swimming is generally prohibited within the harbour area, but it is permitted at a number of designated locations.

Swimming is permitted at the marked locations. You must not swim more than 10 metres from the shoreline. Some of these locations are official bathing sites.

Bathing water quality

The City of Stockholm does not monitor or report water quality at all locations where swimming is permitted. Swimming is always at your own risk. On the bathing water quality page, you can read more about bathing water sampling.

More information

Areas where swimming is prohibited are specified in the local public order regulations.
